Michael Kohan, Esq.

Michael is a graduate of Queens College with a BA in Political Science while minoring in History and Psychology, where he made Dean's List every semester and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Michael went on to receive his Juris Doctor degree from Hofstra University School of Law, where he was a New York State Bar Association, Trial Lawyer's Section Statewide Trial Team Champion.

Michael is admitted to practice law in New York, New Jersey, and California (voluntarily inactive in CA). He is also admitted in the Federal District Courts of the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, and the New Jersey Federal District Court. He has previously worked at one of Long Island's largest litigation firms. Repeatedly named a "Rising Star" by Super Lawyers, Michael has experience in many fields, involving both litigation and transactional matters, which has provided him with outstanding foresight and ability to isolate the primary issues in a matter. These skills have resulted in him being appointed as an arbitrator by the Nassau County Bar Association and him having been asked to serve on a pro bono committee spearheaded by Governor Cuomo that involves the submission of clemency requests on behalf of inmate-clients to the Governor for his review. In addition, Michael is the co-founder of the NYC Legal Referral Network (NYC LRN), which hosts regular events among judges and attorneys in Manhattan and beyond and which has been prominently featured in the New York Law Journal. Michael also has a passion for teaching, having taught to the Queens County Bar Association in the field of real estate litigation.

In his private time, Michael enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He is also an avid reader and traveler. 

Patricia Medina, Esq., MBA

Associate Attorney

Originally from New Mexico, Patricia received a Bachelors of Business Administration in Marketing and in International Business from St. Mary’s University. Patricia went on to receive her Juris Doctorate and a Masters of Business Administration in Finance from Hofstra University. While at Hofstra, Patricia was named the National Association of Woman Lawyers Law Student of the Year award, was on Dean’s her last three semesters, was the Vice President of the Latin American Law Student Association and spent a full year studying law in the Netherlands.

Joel M. Schwartz, Esq.

In-house Of Counsel

Mr. Schwartz received his Juris Doctor degree from St. John’s University School of Law and his LLM degree in Taxation from New York University. He is admitted to practice in New York and is a member of the Trusts and Estates section of the New York State Bar Association. He has practiced in New York for the past 30 years, concentrating in the areas of estate planning; drafting of wills and trusts; handling estate administrations and disputes with the Internal Revenue Service and state taxing authorities.

Joshua Lockamy, Esq.

In-house Of Counsel

Mr. Lockamy is a graduate of Hofstra University School of Law, where he excelled in Moot Court as a top 10 finalist. Mr. Lockamy was also on the Hofstra Trial Team, which finished in the New York State quarter finals. During law school, Mr. Lockamy clerked for a major general liability defense firm.

After graduating from Hofstra, Mr. Lockamy moved to North Carolina where he was a contract attorney for the Mecklenburg County Public Defender’s Office. There he conducted multiple criminal bench trials.

In 2010, Mr. Lockamy moved back to New York and worked for several liability defense firms. He then took an associate position with one of the largest plaintiff’s firms in the New York City metro area, where he continued to hone his exceptional trial skills. Since then, Mr. Lockamy has been a trial attorney for multiple New York City area plaintiff’s personal injury firms, winning multiple favorable verdicts year after year.

Mr. Lockamy has obtained multiple six and seven figure verdicts and settlements. He has litigated and/or taken to trial all types of personal injury cases, including motor vehicle accidents, premises liability, construction accident, and medical malpractice cases. Mr. Lockamy is a relentless and compassionate advocate for those that have been seriously injured due to the negligent/careless conduct of others. As a result of his experience on the defense side of such lawsuits, he is in a unique position to provide creative counseling and strategies that most plaintiff’s attorneys would overlook.

Hon. George M. Heymann

Of Counsel

Judge Heymann retired from the bench after serving over twenty years as a Judge of the New York City Civil Court, Housing Part. He has more than 85 published legal decisions to his credit, of which more than one third were selected by the New York State Reporter for publication in the Official Miscellaneous Reports. Judge Heymann also has an exemplary appellate record, with many cases having been cited by the Appellate Divisions, Appellate Terms, and the Supreme, Civil and Housing Courts. In 2007, Judge Heymann was honored with the "Judiciary Award of Merit in Recognition of [His] Efforts To Make Kings County A Better Place To Practice Law" by the Kings County Housing Court Bar Association.

He is a renowned author of numerous articles that have appeared in bar association publications and the New York Law Journal and has received numerous awards for his professional and community service.

Prior to his career as a judge, Judge Heymann served for 10 years as a Principal Law Clerk to Justices sitting in both the Civil and Criminal terms of the Supreme Court in Queens County. 

Before his clerkships, Judge Heymann served as Counsel for the New York State Association for Retarded Children. There, he authored New York's first "Advocates Guide to New York State Education Laws for the Mentally Retarded and Other Developmental Disabilities" and appeared in Federal and State Courts on behalf of those who were in large state institutions. He also fought for better educational facilities and programs, and lectured on the rights of the developmentally disabled throughout New York State.

Judge Heymann has also served as an Assistant District Attorney under former District Attorney John J. Santucci. Shortly after his appointment, he was immediately assigned to the Appeals Bureau where he briefed and argued cases before the Appellate Division, Second Department. While in the D.A.'s office, Judge Heymann was solicited to become a Counsel and Administrative Law Judge for the New York City Department of Transportation. 

Judge Heymann has a had a distinguished teaching career as an Instructor in the Queens College Paralegal Studies Program, where he taught classes for 16 consecutive years, including Legal Research and Writing, Civil Litigation, and Basic Concepts of Law. At Queens College, Judge Heymann became the first recipient of the annual award for "Excellence in Teaching." Currently, Judge Heymann teaches real estate litigation seminars with Mr. Kohan.

In addition, Judge Heymann is a member of the Queens County Bar Association, Queens County Women's Bar Association, Brandeis Association (Past President) and New York State Bar Association.

Outside of his legal career, Judge Heymann has been an active member of his community. He served 15 consecutive years on his local Community Boards and has served as Trustee of his synagogue for over 20 years.

Perham Makabi, Esq.

Mr. Makabi received his BA from Yeshiva University and his Juris Doctor from Hofstra University School of Law, where he was a participant in the Political Asylum Clinic. He primarily focuses on immigration matters, with a passion for deportation defense.

Matin Emouna, Esq.

Of Counsel

Mr. Emouna’s criminal practice includes the defense of corporations and individuals charged with criminal violations in both Federal and State Courts, as well as civil matters. His duties include representation at arraignments, trials, bail applications, motion hearings, grand jury hearings, sentencing and trials.

His powerful deal-making presence, coupled with his trial experience makes him a most formidable adversary and representative for his substantial client base. Mr. Emouna maintains his finely honed negotiating skills by his constant interaction with other attorneys, judges, prosecutors, insurance representatives, real estate operators, bankers, and industry brokers as well as regularly attending and participating in latest topic seminars.

Mr. Emouna is well-respected and known as a consummate deal maker. His zealous representation has led him to be retained on many high profile cases.

Mr. Emouna is multilingual and has studied extensively oversees in France and Spain. He received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Spanish from SUNY at Albany. He then obtained his Juris Doctor from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where he was a member of Moot Court Board. 

Matin Emouna has been admitted to practice law in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, United States Court of International Trade and United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces.

Matin Emouna’s professional memberships include; Nassau County Bar Association, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, American Society of International Law, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, American Association of Justice and Nassau Lawyers Association of Long Island.

Peter Papagianakis, Esq.

Of Counsel

Since commencing his legal career in 1997, Mr. Papagianakis has practiced law exclusively in the area of business contracts and transactions.  His experience has been as an attorney for a national law firm and a Manhattan-based law firm and as senior counsel for a NYSE-listed company where he was responsible for SEC reporting and corporate and capital market transactions.  The range of Mr. Papagianakis' experience includes the representation and counseling of public companies, as well as the representation and counseling of private companies from inception to IPO and beyond.

Mr. Papagianakis graduated magna cum laude from his law school alma mater (Florida State University College of Law) and his undergraduate alma mater (CarnegieMellonUniversity).  Mr. Papagianakis is licensed in New York and Florida (where he practiced law for three years).

In addition to practicing law, Mr. Papagianakis (1) serves on the Board of Directors of NYS-based multi-state property and casualty insurance company and (2) has taught the following courses for various graduate and undergraduate university programs in New York: (i) Business Law/Commercial Transactions, (ii) Law of Business Organizations, (iii) Negotiation Skills, (iv) Microeconomics, (v) Macroeconomics, (vi) Investing in Mutual Funds, and (vii) Investing in Stocks and Bonds.

Before law school, Mr. Papagianakis worked for two years as an Assistant Bank Examiner with the Miami Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta and for one year as an Assistant Economist with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.  In addition, he passed the Level I examination of the Chartered Financial Analyst program.

Nathan Soufeh, Esq.

Of Counsel

Mr. Soufeh is an attorney admitted to practice in the State of New York. He takes pride in his reputation for providing skilled criminal defense. Mr. Soufeh also assist clients with traffic violations and personal injury matters. 

David Mayer, M.D., Esq. 

Of Counsel

Dr. Mayer is a former Chairman and Professor of Surgery, who changed the focus of his career towards personal injury and medical malpractice law. Dr. Mayer has extensive experience in analyzing complex issues in medical malpractice from both the physician's and attorney's perspective. He holds an M.D. degree from Cornell Medical School, as well as a summa cum laude J.D. from Hofstra Law School. Dr. Mayer has also achieved numerous multi-million dollar awards for clients through his expert medical testimony.

Raymond Iryami, Esq.

Of Counsel

A graduate of Fordham University School of Law, Mr. Iryami has focused his extensive legal efforts on healthcare, corporate, and commercial litigation matters. Mr. Iryami also has an extensive record of community service. 

Mr. Iryami has represented much of the gamut of healthcare providers, and has served the needs of group purchasing organizations (GPOs), medical practice management companies, staffing companies, billing companies, and other non-professional businesses that serve healthcare providers.  

Mr. Iryami has represented clients at all stages of business from the formation of a new entity (including any relevant agreements among partners), to the acquisition of a business or practice, to the sale of a business or practice, and finally to the dissolution of a practice.  When negotiations have failed to achieve the desired result, Mr. Iryami has represented clients in state and federal courts on various commercial, corporate, and regulatory matters, including Article 78 proceedings.

Professionally, Mr. Iryami has served as the president of the New York Chapter of the Iranian American Bar Association and as a member of the New York State Bar Association (Health Law Section) and the Great Neck Lawyers Association.  In addition, he has served as a pro bono attorney for the Sephardic American Medical Society.
